Successful Polish LNG Conference Concludes

The Center for Industrial Development is a research and consulting firm focused on the importance of industrial development to human progress and freedom.

December 11th, 2017- The first annual Polish LNG Conference was a great success, gathering over 100 key stakeholders from the European LNG industry. Attendees included government officials, policymakers, and private companies involved in all stages of the LNG industry.

The first day of the conference focused on the development and financing of LNG infrastructure in Poland, and insights were shared from Gaz-System, Emerson, and Shell, among others. The primary conclusion was that regulations and investment models need to catch up to the dynamic LNG market to better facilitate investments. The day concluded with a discussion about the future of LNG fueled transport, led by IVECO and Volvo. The panelists agreed that there still exists great risks and barriers to implementation for using LNG as a fuel for road transport. The second day of the conference included a discussion about the European LNG industry as a whole, and featured insightful speeches by representatives of the European Commission. The topic of LNG contributing to European energy security was discussed at length. This topic was especially relevant for U.S. LNG, since a day before the conference, the Polish national oil and gas company, PGNiG, signed a supply agreement to source LNG from the Sabine Pass terminal in Texas, USA. The remainder of the day was spent discussing various aspects of supply and distribution technologies, including small scale solutions. CID was honored to have participated in the first annual Polish LNG Conference as a media partner and is looking forward to next year’s conference in autumn 2018. An in-depth review of the conference along with a discussion of the key themes will be released by CID in the coming weeks.
